Dalton Gardens Community Description
Dalton Gardens is wedged between the cities of Coeur d’Alene and Hayden. A NIMBY’s paradise, there are almost zero commercial land uses within Dalton Gardens and each single-family home sits upon half to one acre lots with plenty of grass to mow in the summer months. In addition to being almost exclusively single-family residential land uses, there are also zero sidewalks — an amazing accomplishment.
Rapid growth has consumed all the municipalities around Dalton Gardens, which dramatically diversifies their land uses and population densities. Yet, here Dalton Gardens sits, a classic inner-ring suburb that functions more as a petulant island unto itself rather than an asset woven into the fabric of the urbanized Coeur d’Alene area.
A testament to Dalton Gardens’ incompetence is its city hall. Void of city pride, void of authority, and void of urbanism, Dalton Gardens’ City Hall is a tribute to the erroneous philosophy that one is not part of the whole. That, in fact, my 1979 rancher located about 7 minutes from downtown Coeur d’Alene is immune to urbanism. That all this growth happening around me is simply an illusion that one can whisk away simply by an energetic wave of their hand.
